The monumental complex of the Art Galleries in Accademia now occupies the prestigious center of the Scuola Grande di Santa Maria della Carita, one of the oldest secular brotherhoods in the city.
They are an integral part also the homonymous church of Santa Maria and the monastery of the Lateran Canons, built by Andrea Palladio.
The museum hosts the largest collection of Venetian paintings, from the fourteenth century Byzantine and Gothic to Renaissance artists, Bellini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Veronese, Tintoretto and Titian to reach Giambattista Tiepolo and the eighteenth-century landscape painters, Canaletto, Guardi, Bellotto, Longhi.
